Fort Jefferson is gorgeous. I mean, I know they kept prisoners in rough conditions here during the Civil War. Like Dr. Samuel Mudd, who was convicted of conspiring with John Wilkes Booth in his assassination of Lincoln. Anyways, I’m determined to make this a “date” trip.
I’ve been to a lot of historic and military site (military and history am I), but I would stage a rebellion and make that my island fortress guarded by dirigables and steam powered mechanical men. That is the coolest fort I’ve seen.
